10.00 am Walk the Selsey Tram Way, 11 miles

Many of us have heard of the Selsey Tramway which ran from 1897 to 1935 between Selsey and Chichester bringing holiday makers and goods to the town. It had an interesting history but what was it and why did it vanish? Was there any political skulduggery?

last train to selsey We follow the tramway walking on tracks, bridleways and footpaths via Pagham Harbour, Sidlesham, Hunston and the Chichester Canal. This is a lovely walk in the country air. Bring a picnic and plenty to drink, as well as appropriate footwear and clothing. Return to Selsey in your own time, via the 51 bus.

A popular event last year, we are delighted to again have Dr John Mason MBE, Principal Lecturer at South Downs Planetarium, take us along the shore to for a good hour or more, giving us an expert lead on the night sky. Dr Mason has over 30 years experience in astronomy, astrophysics and space technology, is a frequent TV and radio broadcaster, has worked on Tomorrows World and appeared many times with Sir Patrick many times on Sky at Night. He recently made several radio broadcasts about our local astronaut Tim Peake who went to Chichester High School for Boys.
